Enhancing Care Program

Enhancing Care builds on the Alzheimer Society in Canada’s booklet, Guidelines for Care, to ensure that people with the disease receive specialized care. Enhancing Care is an assessment process facilitated by the Society that helps staff identify how their facility or organization is meeting the Guidelines for Care.

Newsletters

The Society produces several newsletters: the Unforgettable Quarterly is sent to over 1,800 individuals and agencies in Thunder Bay and district every March, June,September, December.

Advance Care Planning

Trained staff and community volunteers educate health professionals and disseminate accurate information on advance care planning to seniors and other persons affected by dementia.

Dementia Network

The Alzheimer Society along with the Psychogeriatric Resource Consultant and other stakeholders are working together to facilitate the development of a dementia network for Thunder Bay and District. Approximately 35 agencies are involved in the network start up and design. The purpose of the network is to promote collaboration among agencies providing care to people with dementia, identify gaps and improve the system of care.

Resource Centre

A large selection of books, journals, videos, CD’s and cassettes are available for loan. Topics include: coping strategies, the disease process and stages, caregiver issues, other related dementias etc. Other materials such as brochures, fact sheets and posters are available as well as computer with Internet access for the public.
