Public Education
Education is an integral part of what we do at the Alzheimer Society of Thunder Bay. Offered in Thunder Bay and throughout the region, we deliver specially desiged workshops, presentations and in-services to health care professionals, students, caregivers, persons with dementia, community groups and the general public.
Available year-round, our programs are flexible and geared toward the learning needs of different groups. They can be delivered at your agency, a community setting, at the Alzheimer Society of Thunder Bay office, or even over the Ontario Telemedicine Network.

Volunteer Training
Offered regularly, this 1.5 - 2 hour program is useful for volunteers who may work with persons with dementia through their work as friendly visitors or in other settings. Topics include:

Throughout the year we organize a number of educational and social events:

Dementia Care Conference: The largest dementia care event in Northwestern Ontario! Featuring expert guest speakers, this event is a must-attend for health care professionals, caregivers and students who plan to work with seniors!

Public Forum: With an emphasis on research and prevention, this evening can provide great insight into what is new and what is coming in terms of advances in research and innovative treatments and the most current ways to reduce your risk for developing dementia.

Spiritual Retreat: Rejuvenate your spirit. The Spiritual Retreat is a day for caregivers to focus on their mental, emotional, physical and spiritual well-being.

Caregiver Retreat: A special day just for caregivers, the Caregiver Retreat features discussion groups and a variety of activities to help you relax and refresh.

Rendezvous: Featuring a fabulous sit-down dinner, live entertainment and a special guest speaker, all are welcome to attend this annual celebration of the Alzheimer Society in which we honour or volunteers.
